Duette

How can we help?

The things couples ask us most, answered here — with the exact taps to make. If yours isn't here, write to us and a person will read it.

Getting started

the first five minutes

How do we link our two accounts?

One of you creates a shared code — twelve characters, like K7M2QX9RJ4TP — and sends it over. The other enters it on the linking screen, and you're connected. It only takes one code between you; you don't each need one.

You shouldn't need to type it out. In Settings, tap the code to copy it or use the share button to send it straight into Messages — your partner can paste it in. It's case-insensitive, and the letters I, L, O and U and the digits 0 and 1 never appear in a code, so there's nothing ambiguous to mistype.

Can I use Duette on my own?

You can create an account and set up your profile on your own, but Duette is built for exactly two people. Daily photos, memories, the shared calendar, and lists all need a linked partner before they'll do anything — the app will ask you to link first.

How do I sign in?

With your email and password, or by using Apple or Google. Whichever you pick, use the same one every time — signing in a different way creates a separate account rather than finding your existing one.

Forgotten your password? Tap Forgot password on the sign-in screen and we'll email you a reset link. If it doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder.

We linked to the wrong person by mistake

It's fixable. Either of you can unlink from Settings, and then you're both free to link again with the right code.

Worth knowing first: unlinking separates your accounts, so anything you built together stops being shared between you. If you've already added memories or photos with the wrong account, email us before you unlink and we'll talk it through.

Photos & dailies

the everyday ritual

How does the streak actually work?

A day counts toward your streak only when both of you have added a daily photo for that day. One photo on its own keeps the day waiting, not counted — which is rather the point of a shared streak.

Days are counted in your couple's shared time zone, so you're both working to the same midnight even when you're apart.

Who can see our photos?

Only the two of you. Duette has no feed, no followers, no public profiles, and nothing to discover. Everything you add is visible to you and your partner and nobody else.

For the full detail on what we store and why, read our privacy policy.

My partner's photo hasn't appeared

Usually this is a sync delay rather than a lost photo. Pull the page to refresh first; if it's still missing, force a sync from Settings.

If it still hasn't arrived, check that your partner's upload actually finished — a photo caught mid-upload on a weak connection will show on their phone before it reaches yours.

Why can't I add another photo to this memory?

Each memory holds a cover photo plus three attached photos on the free plan, or a cover plus six on Duette Plus. The cover doesn't count against that, so a Plus memory can hold seven pictures in total.

Memories themselves work differently: those are capped at 50 on free and unlimited on Plus. See the next section for the full list.

Duette Plus

one subscription, two people

Do we both need to pay?

No. Duette Plus is shared between the two of you — when one partner subscribes, everything unlocks for both. There's no second seat to buy and no separate partner plan.

If your partner has subscribed and you're still seeing the free limits, force a sync from Settings; the unlock reaches your phone on the next refresh.

What's included on each plan?

Everything else in Duette works the same on both plans.

How do I cancel or change my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by us, so they're managed in your device's subscription settings. Settings has a shortcut that takes you straight there.

Two things worth knowing: cancelling stops the next renewal but leaves Plus active until the period you've paid for ends, and deleting your Duette account does not cancel your subscription — cancel it separately.

In the app Settings Manage subscription

I paid, but Plus isn't showing

Work through these in order — it's nearly always one of the first two:

  • Force a sync from Settings → Sync → Sync now.
  • Check you're signed in to the same Apple ID that made the purchase.
  • Close Duette fully and reopen it.

Still nothing? Email us with the Apple receipt and the email address on your Duette account, and we'll sort it out.

When is Duette coming to Android?

It's in development, and there's a beta running now. You can apply for the beta — we'll send a code when a place opens up. If you already have one, redeem it in Settings.

Syncing & alerts

when something looks stale

Something we added isn't showing on the other phone

Duette syncs continuously in the background, but a phone that has been asleep, offline, or on a patchy connection can fall behind. Sync now pulls the latest shared data immediately.

There's a short cooldown between forced syncs — if the button asks you to wait a few seconds, that's expected, not an error.

I'm not getting notifications

Notifications are controlled by your phone rather than by Duette, so the fix is usually in iOS Settings. The app has a shortcut that opens the right screen directly — check that Allow Notifications is on, and that Focus or Do Not Disturb isn't holding them back.

If you tapped "Don't Allow" when Duette first asked, this is the only place it can be switched back on.

In the app Settings Notification settings

The app is behaving oddly

Start with the usual three: close Duette fully and reopen it, check you're on the latest version in the App Store, and force a sync.

If it persists, please report it from inside the app rather than by email — the bug report can attach diagnostics and recent logs, which tells us far more than a description alone.

Your account

yours to change, always

How do I change my name, photo, or colour?

All of it lives in your profile — your display name, username, profile photo, and the colour that marks your half of the app. Change any of it whenever you like.

Your anniversary date sits just below, under your shared details.

In the app Settings Profile

What happens if we unlink?

Unlinking separates your two accounts. You each keep your own account and profile, but you stop sharing new memories, photos, plans, and lists with each other, and the shared parts of the app go quiet until you link with someone again.

It isn't the same as deleting your account — if that's what you're after, see below.

In the app Settings Unlink from partner

How do I delete my account?

From inside the app — you never need to ask us. Deletion is scheduled about 30 days out and the app shows you the exact date. Nothing is removed until then, and signing back in at any point cancels it.

Because some of what you've built is shared, it's worth reading what gets deleted and what stays before you start.

In the app Settings Delete account

How do you handle our data?

Your memories are private to the two of you, and we don't sell your data or use it to advertise to you. The privacy policy sets out exactly what we collect, why, and how long we keep it.

Subscription terms are covered by Apple's standard licence agreement.

There's no ticket queue and no chatbot — your email reaches a person who works on Duette.

Please enclose

  • The email address on your Duette account, so we can find you.
  • What happened, what you expected instead, and roughly when.
  • Your phone and iOS version, plus the Duette version from Settings.
  • A screenshot, if anything looks wrong on screen.

For anything that looks like a bug, Settings → Report a bug beats email — it attaches diagnostics we can't get any other way. Reporting a security issue? Send it to the same address and mark it urgent.
